Spiritual Check Up

Spiritual Check Up

 We Need Others to Grow-
How do you go about giving yourself a spiritual check up?  The answer to that question is very simple: It depends on what is wrong with you! It depends on how you work on your spiritual growth. Do you take your spiritual growth seriously? Are you serious about God and your life with him? Are you serious about your salvation and about making it to heaven? You have to really think about these questions, God take you very seriously, he love and cares for you so much that he dies for you but how are you growing spiritually in your intimate relationship with him?

1 Peter 2:2

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

The Apostle Paul said we are to “work out our own salvation with fear and trembling.” (Philippians 2:12) That doesn’t mean our salvation is based on works or on what you do. Everything that you do in your life can reflect on your salvation. Salvation is the free gift of God and there is nothing you or I can do to earn it or deserve it.  What that verse means is that you and I are responsible for our own spiritual growth.

Ephesians 4:15

But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Your pastor is not responsible for your spiritual growth, you are.  Your Sunday School or group leader is not responsible for your spiritual growth, you are.  Your spouse is not responsible for you growing in the Lord, that’s your job! However attending the right church and being around the right people is imperative to your spiritual growth. If you are attending a carnal church or a church where there is just no flow or strong move of the Holy Spirit, no anointing, where everything is based on social activities, where everything is run by protocol, structure or process that may not be helping your spiritual growth and can be a hindrance. What is best for your spiritual growth is to attend a church where there is a powerful move and a flow of the Holy Spirit, where you can feel the anointing the minute you walk in the door, where you will be able to feel the presence of God in the building, where when the worship plays everyone falls at the altar, that is when you know that you are at a good church and know that there is a presence of God that will help in your spiritual growth. Where there is true biblical teachings and bible studies. But it is up to you to take action as to where you want to go, where you want to grow spiritually.

While you are ultimately responsible for your own spiritual growth, you don’t have to do it by yourself. In fact, you can’t do it by yourself.  First and foremost you need the Holy Spirit however you need the instruction, encouragement, edification and insight of others who love and care about you in order to become all that God intends you to be. There are things you don’t know, experiences you haven’t had, mistakes you haven’t made and insights you haven’t yet gleaned from the Word, and you need others to share these thing with you.

Just know that when it comes to seeing ourselves honestly, we are not qualified.  We tend to either see ourselves as better than we actually are or we are too hard on ourselves and see ourselves as less than we really are.  It is very, very difficult for us to be objective about ourselves. For that reason, we need those who know us best and love us most to help us in process of becoming the man or woman of God that He intends for us to be and we must be able to listen to those who are trying to help us in our growth. Sometimes our loved ones know us better than we know ourselves because they can see us from the outside looking in. Also sometime’s God will use a loved one as a messenger to help us in our spiritual growth however you must be open to accept that help.

Who are those people in your life?  Are you leaning on them for advice, support and encouragement?  Are you listening to them when they are speaking something that is for your best interest and can advance your spiritual growth? Are you asking them to make sure you are aware of “blind spots” in your life that can hinder your growth or compromise your witness?  You need them to grow in your walk with the Lord! Pay attention to your help, God could be speaking to you through someone else and you may be missing the mark to advance in your spiritual growth. God wants you to seek him as a “whole” not just half. He wants us to be in fire for him, to desire him more and more each day, to serve him daily, to be intimate with him.

Do a Spiritual check up, see where need to correct to advance in your spiritual growth, if you need to wean some things out then do so,  sometimes you have to make changes in order to make things better for yourself. Take a look at things that make have been hindering your growth, pay attentions to those that have been trying to help you, then work on correcting what needs to be corrected to advance spiritually in your walk with the Lord.

2 Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen.

May God Bless you always.
